Group Business Integration and Master Data Consolidation

Recruit Co., Ltd. Adopts uSonar for Integrated Customer Data Management

Adopting LBC Codes for Data Integration Across Multiple Business Units to Ensure Comprehensiveness and Data Freshness

Recruit Co., Ltd.

uSonar Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Chairperson: Nami Fukutomi; President: Katsuhito Nagatake; hereinafter referred to as uSonar) is pleased to announce that Recruit Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshihiro Kitamura; hereinafter referred to as Recruit) has adopted and implemented uSonar's corporate database, LBC.

Background and Context of Implementation: Consolidating Customer Databases Following the Integration of Seven Group Companies

In 2021, Recruit integrated seven of its core business and functional companies within the group.
To maximize the benefits of this integration, consolidating customer data previously managed separately across multiple business units became a key priority. This consolidation enables a comprehensive view of transactions across business domains, facilitating high-level analysis and accurate management decision-making.
This initiative was led by the Customer Infrastructure Design Group, Planning Division, Client Success Promotion Office.

Addressing the Challenge of Customer Database Integration

The mission and vision of the Customer Base Design Group are to integrate and plan the utilization of customer data across the multiple service domains managed by Recruit. By doing so, we aim to build a system that allows Recruit to grasp and understand the 360-degree status of our customers, enabling us to provide services and value at the optimal time.
Recruit operates primarily in two business domains: promotional services and human resources. We faced a situation where multiple customer management systems existed, resulting in a vast amount of customer data, including duplicates. Under these circumstances, because the management IDs differed, it was impossible to easily match records or integrate information across domains for a single unique company.
Initially, we attempted in-house data cleansing. However, without a reliable, authoritative source of corporate information, we faced challenges not only with the burden of the cleansing process itself but also with the comprehensiveness and accuracy of the results.
Therefore, we adopted a policy to integrate customer data by introducing an external corporate database that provides a common key code system (customer master)—the literal key to data cleansing—and offers broad coverage. As a result, uSonar's corporate database, LBC, was selected and implemented based on three key perspectives:
1. The volume of data held, including branches, business offices, and stores (including the diversity of sources).
2. Data freshness and accuracy (frequency of information acquisition and updates using both scraping and manual verification).
3. The inclusion of corporate affiliations and hierarchical structures.

Implementation Results and Future Utilization

We have integrated the full LBC corporate database from uSonar with Recruit's unified customer base (Connext) via API. uSonar provides information on corporate mergers, relocations, and changes in head office/branch relationships as they are identified.

About the Recruit Group

Since its founding in 1960, the Recruit Group has provided optimal choices tailored to individual lifestyles across various domains, including employment, marriage, education, housing, automobiles, travel, dining, and beauty. Currently, we operate in over 60 countries and regions, focusing on three core business segments: HR Technology, Matching & Solutions, and Staffing.
Through the creation of new value, the Recruit Group strives to meet the expectations of society and provide more "opportunities for encounters that do not yet exist here" to help realize a prosperous world where every individual can shine.

Since our establishment in 1990, we have independently built and maintained LBC, one of Japan's largest corporate databases, to address challenges related to B2B data. Utilizing proprietary technology to collect and organize high-quality, accurate data, as well as cutting-edge insights such as artificial intelligence, we provide cloud services such as uSonar, PLANSonar, and mSonar to support the formulation of precise business strategies. We have an extensive track record of success in resolving customer data integration projects (MDM: Master Data Management) within corporate groups, as demonstrated in this case.
