What Is a Corporate Number?

The Corporate Number is a 13-digit number consisting of a 12-digit Corporate Registration Number plus a 1-digit check digit. It is assigned to corporations by the National Tax Agency based on the Act on the Use of Numbers to Identify a Specific Individual in Administrative Procedures, which was enacted on May 24, 2013 (promulgated on May 31, 2013). After notification to the target corporation, the number is published along with the trade name or name, and the location of the head office or principal office.

* The Corporate Registration Number is used for various purposes, such as obtaining a certificate of registered matters or omitting attached documents when applying for commercial or real estate registration.

The attribute information published with the Corporate Number consists of four items: (1) Corporate Number, (2) Trade Name or Name, (3) Trade Name or Name (Katakana), and (4) Location.
* The Trade Name or Name (Katakana) has been published as a registered matter since March 2018. In addition to these four items, English trade names and locations are also published, but these are items that only companies that request them register.

Only one Corporate Number is assigned to the head office or principal office of a corporation. Corporate Numbers are not assigned to branches or business offices.
