Corporate News
uSonar Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Nami Fukutomi; President: Katsuhito Nagatake; hereinafter "uSonar") is pleased to announce that it has received the 2024 DATA-EX Award for Data Society Promotion, hosted by the Data Society Alliance (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director/Chairman: Noriaki Okui, Chairman of Interfusion Consulting Co., Ltd.; hereinafter "DSA").
uSonar's initiative, "Support for Data Utilization Using the LBC Corporate Database," was highly evaluated for its contribution to the construction of a data-driven society.
About DSA and the DATA-EX Award
The DSA is an organization that aims to realize a prosperous "Data Society" through cross-sectoral, fair, and free data distribution and utilization, supported by the "Data Strategy" promoted by the Digital Agency and the Cabinet Office's "Strategic Innovation Promotion Program" through industry-academia-government collaboration.
The DSA promotes "DATA-EX," a collective term for activities that provide common technologies and standards for various fields and industries to build their own data linkage platforms. This initiative aims to promote the effective use of data and enable the creation of new value.
Furthermore, through the "DATA-EX Award," the DSA recognizes individuals and organizations engaged in outstanding activities, research, and projects that influence the promotion of a data society. Now in its fourth year, this award program includes various categories such as the "Utilization Idea Grand Prize," "Technology Grand Prize," "Research Encouragement Award," and "Art Award," in addition to the "Data Society Promotion Contribution Award." The "Data Society Promotion Contribution Award" received by our company honors individuals and corporations that have made significant contributions to the construction of a data society.
Key Details of the Award-Winning Data Utilization Support Using the LBC Corporate Database
uSonar provides support for building data infrastructure across a wide range of industries and sectors, including central government agencies, as well as highly public-interest fields such as finance, energy, information and communications, distribution, and manufacturing, utilizing our proprietary corporate database, LBC.
For example, by assigning common keys and latitude/longitude information to the registry data (over 10 million records) used in statistical surveys conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, we assist in visualizing identical or affiliated companies, thereby supporting the efficiency of Evidence-Based Policy Making (EBPM) operations. We believe these contributions were the basis for this recognition.

Scale and Background of the LBC Corporate Database
Under the corporate philosophy of "Supporting Society Through Proper Nouns," uSonar Co., Ltd. has been building and updating its proprietary corporate database, LBC, since its establishment in 1990. Based on LBC, we have supported various companies and government agencies in data utilization and operational efficiency.
LBC covers 8.2 million business locations in Japan (a 99.7% coverage rate), and we take pride in it being one of the largest corporate databases in the country. Guided by our mission to "Organize Information for Every Company in Japan," we continue to collect and update data, maintaining a volume that exceeds 12 million records when including historical information.

Key Features of LBC: Coding System, Data Matching Technology, and Information Freshness
There are three main features of LBC.
- Coding System LBC assigns a unique and immutable code to every business location data point and investigates the relationships between these locations. This enables the systematic linking of headquarters to branches and parent companies to subsidiaries, allowing for data management at the corporate group level. Consequently, this facilitates the calculation of total sales by group and the identification of non-client companies, contributing to operational efficiency and data-driven organizational strategy.
- Data Cleansing Expertise One of the primary use cases for LBC is the revitalization of a client's own internal database. We support the maintenance of client data by performing matching processes against LBC data. In doing so, we leverage uSonar's cleansing expertise to achieve a high matching rate. By functioning as a "dictionary," LBC enables advanced data cleansing (data matching).
- Maintaining Freshness and Accuracy When the data sources used to build LBC are updated, those changes are reflected in LBC. For instance, we detect information updates based on a wide range of public data sources, such as corporate registries, securities reports, official gazettes, corporate telephone directories, and websites, ensuring that we can provide the most current information at all times.
