uSonar Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Nami Fukutomi; hereinafter "uSonar") would like to provide an explanation regarding the security features of our corporate information & business card management service, mSonar, in light of recent reports concerning a case of alleged violation of the Unauthorized Computer Access Prohibition Act involving a business card management service.
Please note that since our establishment 34 years ago, no such incident has ever occurred at our company.
Overview of the Reported Incident
It is reported that a suspect affiliated with a real estate sales company impersonated an employee of a business card management service provider, contacted clients with false information to illicitly obtain IDs and passwords, and accessed the service to view approximately 150,000 business card records. There are also reports that the suspect may have illicitly accessed 4 million records across more than a dozen other companies. *Based on various information available as of the 12th.
Security Measures Implemented by Our Company
1) Adoption of Smartphone Device Authentication
Each smartphone device possesses a unique ID. Our mSonar service is designed so that login is only possible when the unique smartphone device ID matches the registered login ID and password.
2) Combined Use of SAML Authentication, IP Address Restrictions, and More
Furthermore, in addition to smartphone device authentication, we mandate that all user companies implement at least two-factor authentication or alternative access control mechanisms—such as SAML authentication, IP address restrictions, and SMS authentication—at the time of deployment.
In any case, with our system, incidents like this cannot occur even if an ID and password are obtained illicitly.
3) Robust Security Infrastructure at Our Company
We consistently maintain international information security certifications, including ISMS and ISO standards. We have built a robust infrastructure, described by auditing agencies as comparable to that of a megabank, to withstand unauthorized access and cyberattacks, ensuring that the information assets entrusted to us by our user companies remain secure.
Given the nature of business card management services, where individual errors can lead to personal risks and the platform allows for the viewing of colleagues' information, we believe that an even higher level of security management is essential.
