uSonar Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Nami Fukutomi; hereinafter referred to as uSonar) would like to explain the security features of our corporate information & business card management service, mSonar, in light of recent reports regarding a case of suspected violation of the Unauthorized Computer Access Prohibition Act involving a business card management service provider.
Please note that since our establishment 34 years ago, no such incident has ever occurred at our company.
Overview of the Reported Incident
It is reported that a suspect affiliated with a real estate sales company impersonated an employee of a business card management service provider, contacted business partners with false information, illicitly obtained IDs and passwords, and accessed the business card management service to view approximately 150,000 business card records. There are also reports that the suspect illicitly accessed 4 million records across more than a dozen other companies. *Based on various information available as of the 12th.
Security Measures Implemented by Our Company
1) Adoption of Smartphone Device Authentication
Each smartphone device has a unique ID. Our mSonar service is designed so that login is impossible unless the unique smartphone device ID matches the login ID and password.
2) Combined Use of SAML Authentication, IP Address Restrictions, and More
In addition to smartphone device authentication, we mandate that all client companies use two or more factors of authentication or additional access control mechanisms, such as SAML authentication, IP address restrictions, and SMS authentication, at the time of implementation.
In any case, in our company's situation, even if an ID and password were obtained illicitly, an incident like this could not occur.
3) Our Company's Robust Security Infrastructure
We consistently maintain international information security certifications such as ISMS and ISO. We have built a robust system, described by auditing agencies as comparable to that of a mega-bank, to withstand unauthorized access attacks and have implemented measures to ensure that the information assets entrusted to us by our client companies are never leaked.
Due to the nature of business card management services, we believe that even stricter security management is required, as individual errors not only pose risks to the individual but, given the design that allows colleagues to view information, could impact the entire organization.
